Turn Gage R into a tool for continuous quality improvement.
October 10, 2017
Many quality engineers don’t know the Gage Repeatability and Reproducibility, or Gage R&R, of their leak test. Many, frankly, don’t want to know because they fear how poor it may be.
Joannie Chin, Ph.D., a materials scientist and the deputy director of the Engineering Laboratory at the National Institute of Standards and Technology (NIST) in Gaithersburg, MD, USA, will serve on the ASTM International board of directors. Chin will complete the term of her former colleague, Laurie Locascio, who resigned from the board after taking a new professional position.
The expanded Element Group will operate under the leadership of president and CEO, Charles Noall, alongside a newly-formed executive team which blends testing expertise and experience from both Element and Exova.
The laboratory will test metallurgical, physical and chemical analysis of materials in a multitude of sizes and scenarios. Testing of the material for use in robotic arms in space requires an innovative solution as material quality is of a fracture-critical nature. The facility created a tailored approach for the client as the requirements were so specialized.
