BOULDER, CO-The American National Standards Institute (ANSI) and the National Conference of Standards Laboratories (NCSL) International announce that ANSI/NCSL Z540.3-2006 Requirements for the Calibration of Measuring and Test Equipment has been published. This standard was developed to prescribe the requirements of an organization’s calibration system including the test and measuring equipment inventory, calibration requirements, calibration intervals and calibration procedures.
It is for use by organizations that own or use test and measuring equipment to manufacture, modify or test products, or to perform services where the accuracy of measurements is important. ANSI/NCSL Z540.3-2006 replaces Part II of ANSI/NCSL Z540.1-1994(R2002), which was withdrawn in July 2007.
Part I of ANSI/NCSL Z540.1-1994(R2002) has been replaced by ANSI/ISO/IEC 17025: 2005 General Requirements for the Competence of Testing and Calibration Laboratories.
Organizations that included Z540.1-1994(R2002) in contracts for procurement of products and services would generally substitute ANSI/NCSL Z540.3-2006 as a direct replacement for ANSI/NCSL Z540.1-1994(2002). If an organization was contracting only for accredited calibration or testing laboratory services, the contract should prescribe ANS/ISO/IEC 17025: 2005 as the appropriate standard.
