MAPLE GROVE, MN-Carl Zeiss IMT Corp. has sold its 2,000th Contura G2 coordinate measuring machine (CMM) to Schmiede Corp. of Tullahoma, TN, a contract machining shop. The Contura G2 was introduced in December of 2005, and since then the Maple Grove, MN, manufacturing facility has produced 2,000 of the machines.
“This is the most successful machine Carl Zeiss IMT has ever developed,” says Josef Schernthaner, vice president of operations at Carl Zeiss IMT. “The reason behind the success of this machine, even in the current economy, is the Contura G2’s flexibility in sensors and its excellent price performance ratio. The Contura G2 was a high demand product right out of the gate and is still a very sought after machine. Sales continue to be strong and customers are extremely satisfied with its unique features.”
The bridge-type CMM is available in three configurations, Contura G2 direkt, Contura G2 RDS and Contura G2 aktiv. All models use Zeiss Vast technology and offer the same accuracy with either articulating scanning or active scanning.
