NIST has awarded $3.7 million in grants to help address barriers to widespread adoption of metals-based additive manufacturing through measurement science research. Additive manufacturing typically creates parts and components by building them layer by layer, based on a 3D computer model. Most metals-based additive processes form parts by melting or sintering material in powder form.
Applied Manufacturing Technologies Founder and CEO Michael Jacobs has been named by Association for Advancing Automation to receive the Joseph F. Engelberger Robotics Award for Leadership.
The VISION Award jury cited the company's high technological standards and the outstanding innovation of its submission, which reveals a completely new approach to the 3D acquisition of moving objects.
