The book, "Lean Manufacturing for the Small Shop," is available from the Society of Manufacturing Engineers. The book explains how small- to medium-sized companies can integrate lean manufacturing. The book includes descriptions of lean manufacturing techniques, examples of how they have been used and step-by-step implementation methods.

Clay Hodges has been named the regional director of the American Society for Quality (ASQ). As a regional director, Hodges serves on the ASQ board of directors. He also serves on the Section Affairs Committee.

Kathleen Kono has been appointed vice president of global cooperation for the American Society for Testing and Materials (ASTM). In this position, Kono is responsible for ASTM's international outreach efforts and coordinating ASTM and U.S. government relations.
