BARRINGTON, NJ - Eugene G. Arthurs, executive director of SPIE, the International Society for Optics and Photonics, has been elected to the Board of Directors of Edmund Optics. As a board member, he will serve on the corporation's Executive Search, Nominating and Sales and Marketing Committees.
Dr. Arthurs, who has a long and distinguished career in the international optical industry, has been with SPIE for the past nine years, and previously served as president and CEO of Cleveland Crystals, Inc., where he notably increased sales and profitability during his tenure.
Dr. Arthurs' considerable experience in managing, organizing and structurally enhancing optical technology organizations while planning innovative methods to help bolster revenues and profitability throughout his career are expected to favorably influence Edmund Optics future efforts from sales through manufacturing.
Dr. Arthurs received his Ph.D. and B.Sc. degrees in Physics at Queens University, Belfast. He is a member of the Society of Photographic Instrumentation Engineers (currently SPIE), the Optical Society of America, AAAS, IEEE LEOS, and the Council on Optical Radiation Measurement. He also served on the board of the Photochemical Research Center, and on the Advisory Board of the Scottish Universities Physics Alliance.
