Mahr’s new family of surface finish measurement tools include MarSurf contour drive (CD) series surface finish and contour measurement systems, MarSurf GD series for roughness measurements, and the variable-drive MarSurf VD series, which enables roughness and contour measurements to be performed on the same machine. All products were developed from the ground up with the leading technology, quality and innovation that Mahr is known for, and provide unprecedented levels of speed, flexibility and intelligent ease of use. This enables users to improve the manufacturing quality of workpieces with faster throughput and higher accuracy for a wide variety of applications.

For example, the drive units of the MarSurf CD series move the contour probe with positioning speeds of up to 200 mm/s, making the systems up to 25 times faster than predecessors. All Z-axis columns on the measuring stands of the MarSurf CD series are fully CNC-capable with fast positioning speeds of 50 mm/s—twice as fast as previous systems and five times faster than others on the market. The high dynamic response of the probe system also allows for significantly higher measuring speeds with newly-designed probe arms. An innovative magnetic click-into-place mounting system and confirmation of the correct probe arm configuration is ensured due to an integrated chip that carries the probe arm data. Probe arms can also be changed in a matter of seconds with no recalibration required.

MarSurf CM series optical 3D surface metrology systems enable new insights into surface structures and processing. It features innovative confocal technology with high-precision 16-bit HDR technology to deliver high-resolution 3D surface topography data. Rugged construction, robust technology and results that conform to international standards ensure optimum results in a wide variety of applications.

MarSurf CM series systems provide micron and nanometer resolution surface finish and micro-geometry information including: 2D and 3D surface roughness, bearing area, flatness, depth, volume and much more. The technology allows for the physical acquisition of a true-height signal as opposed to measuring height via pixel contrast, pattern projection, etc. Stable construction and a robust optical principle produce reliable results that can be used in laboratory or production environments. Furthermore, MarSurf CM systems deliver automation seamlessly as part of the standard package. The entire process from data acquisition to creating reports with accurate and reproducible data is streamlined and simple.

Mahr also offers a new range of wireless measuring devices for the networked factory. Digital Micromar micrometers, MarCal calipers and MarCator indicators come equipped with ‘integrated wireless’ transmission capability that significantly increases speed and flexibility for the user. There is no need to run cables, which further speeds up the setup process and provides more efficient data processing, especially for quality control in production or incoming inspection.
