Quality, the world leader in information and analysis for the quality industry, announced Koala T. Bear as its brand ambassador and liaison to the quality community. But don’t let the title fool you, Koala has the credentials, experience, and expertise of a seasoned quality engineer.
Mr. Bear, 52 (in bear years), earned a BS in engineering, with a concentration in metrology and manufacturing testing, and an MS in engineering from the University of Melbourne in Melbourne Australia. “I was going to go for my doctorate so everyone would have to call me Doctor,” said Bear, “But I had a different calling.”
That calling was developing and perfecting measurement and quality control of the production of eucalyptus, a venture that would last thirty years and result in countless accolades and awards from the Australian government and the agricultural community world-wide. “Not to sell myself short, but I just wanted to eat the eucalyptus,” said Bear. “I enjoy nothing more than climbing a big gum tree, hanging out, and gnashing some you-ca.”
And he is not short, as koala bears are often seen in a perching stance with their legs “curled up” and resting on their hind-quarters. “With modern technology, I often do my best work sitting on my bum.”
The humbleness and hyperbole of Koala T. Bear’s statement is, quite literally, the furthest from the truth, as, “He is one of the hardest working koala bears I have ever met,” said Mike Balzano, associate publisher of Quality. “He is truly dedicated to the quality industry!”
Koala will work closely alongside Managing Editor Michelle Bangert and Editorial Director Darryl Seland to provide the information the quality industry wants and needs to get the job done (and hopefully provide a smile along the way). He also will be part of, and help prepare for, The Quality Show in Nashville, TN, April 16-17, 2025.
“I hope to see you all there. It’s an honor and privilege to be on the Quality team,” said Koala T. Bear. “This is gonna be fun!”
